The village of Methley, between Leeds and Castleford, is the venue for what was known to be Jane Tomlinson’s favourite race (and the last run she ever took part in 2007), the 5K Canal Run on Tuesday 2 July.
This is an intimate and friendly club run which attracts participants from throughout West Yorkshire and beyond. The 5k starts on the canal towpath and runs down and back on the other side of the Aire and Calder Canal - it is believed to be a PB course with only two bridges to cross and no traffic.
The upcoming event, sponsored by Leeds payments business Nochex, will see the 5k Canal Races start at 7.15pm after the 1.5 mile fun run at 6.45pm. There will be a slight increase in the numbers taking part, too, with an increase of the normal 450 field – great news for those who have been disappointed in the past.
Nochex are also providing organisers Rothwell Harriers with the means to register runners and pay their entrance fees online. For the first time Nochex is enabling people to make donations and to claim Gift Aid.
All the funds collected go to the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, which raises money for children’s and cancer charities in memory of Jane Tomlinson. Over the last 10 years, Rothwell Harriers have raised in excess of £10,000 for the appeal.
Would-be participants are encouraged to snap up a place, which are priced at £12.
