Less than a year after recording the fastest average time for 500 marathons, Steve Edwards is on the verge of achieving another remarkable feat. With a current total of 595, Steve is just five away from completing 600 marathons all under 3:30, a milestone that he plans to hit by next month.
Once crowned 'The Godfather' of marathon running, Steve set his first record in 1990 at the age of 28 - becoming the youngest person to run 100 marathons. From 1991 to 1992, he set a record for the most marathons completed over the course of a year, managing 87 separate 26.2 mile races.
Last November, a week shy of his 50th birthday, Steve cracked the 3:30 barrier in an official marathon for a world record 500th time. This was his 577th marathon in total, all of which he has managed to finish.
Less than a year on and Steve is hoping to inscribe his name in the history books once more. Barring injury, Steve will be looking to set a new Guinness World Record at the Great Langdale Marathon on 21 September.
