Accrington runners will come together on Sunday 3 March to honour their most famous son, Dr. Ron Hill. In recognition of the great man, participants at next month’s event are being encouraged to raise funds for Alzheimer’s UK – Hill revealed last year that he had been diagnosed with the condition.
Entries for the OMC Motor Group Ron Hill Accrington 10K, organised by Cannonball Events, are still open with registration priced at just £18 (£16 affiliated). Last year was a sell-out so prospective participants are being encouraged to snap up the remaining places.
Departing from The Walton Arms on Burnley Road, runners will enjoy a relatively speedy course that offers a grandstand finish with the last 1.5 miles being a fast descent.
Last year saw Salford Harrier David Rigby win by a sizeable margin, coming home in 32:29, almost three minutes ahead of Blackburn Harrier Ben Costello. Nick Gaskell of Ribble Valley Harriers clamed third in 36:03.
Costell’s clubmate Pauline Powell was the outright winner in the women’s field in 38:36, a time that also secured her 8th overall. Claire Vincent was closest competitor in 43:35, followed by Sophie Pilkington in 44:05.
