Organisers of the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon have confirmed AfterShokz as the official sport headphone partner for the race. Scheduled for Sunday 6 April, the Trafford event is recognised as the flattest and fastest marathon across Europe with just 54m of elevation over the course.
Unlike conventional headphones and earbuds that use the eardrums to transmit sound, AfterShokz transmits sound through the listener's cheekbones to the inner ear, bypassing the eardrum completely. This ensures the user has full awareness of noise and situations around them.
Race director Simon Hill commented: "I am pleased to confirm that AfterShokz is a partner for the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon. With AfterShokz delivering a safe, open ear listening experience, I am happy to say that AfterShokz sport headphones have got our stamp of approval for runners to wear during the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon in Trafford next April."
Using the same route as 2013, the marathon starts on the A56 White City Roundabout in Old Trafford, just a short walk from Manchester United Football Club, and finishes outside the stadium where the race village and charity zone are also located. A new addition for 2014 is the half / half relay, which will allow runners to share the marathon distance with a partner. There is also a four-leg relay, where teams of four can each take a leg over 26.2 miles.
A total of 10,000 places have been made available for next year's race. To register, visit the event website.
