Anyone looking to kick-start their 2017 training by committing to an early spring race are being alerted to the fact that discounted entry for the Jones Crisps Anglesey Half Marathon closes this evening (Monday 16 January). Due to take place on Sunday 5 March, the event is recognised as having one of the most iconic start points on the racing circuit, with runners departing from the Menai Suspension Bridge.
This is the final day in which prospective entrants can register for just £28, with the price increasing to £30 as of Tuesday. As it stands, almost 1150 runners have registered for an event that has been referred to 'the most beautiful half marathon in the UK'.
Such a status has been acquired due to the fact the highly impressive course is set against the backdrop of the Snowdonia National Park and moves along the gorgeous Menai Strait coastline all the way up to Beaumaris. While the route is known to be undulating it is also fast and on mainly traffic-free roads, ideal for anyone looking for an early season PB.
Last year’s event saw over 1,400 runners congregate at the Menai Suspennsion Bridge for what turned out to be a thrilling race. 2015 champion Alun Vaughan successfully defended his title – and managed a PB in the process – while Hannah Oldroyd set a course record as she finished top in the women’s competition.
New for this year is the addition of the 10k distance, which organiser Always Aim High has designed in such a way to incorporate the beauty of the half marathon course. Entry for the 10k is priced at just £19.99, further details are available here.
