Any runner will tell you that the closing stages of a race, whether a 5k or marathon, seem to last forever, and, but for the encouragement of spectators and fellow competitors, can often seem insurmountable. Perhaps with this in mind, organisers of the upcoming Liverpool Half Marathon and accompanying 10 mile road race will have race angels present to lend a hand to those competing in the event on Sunday 13 March.
The events, once again be supported by Vitality as title sponsor, are expected to attract over 10,000 runners to Merseyside. With over 9,000 competitors taking part in 2015, the race stands as the most popular in the north west.
The course starts and finishes at the city’s Pier Head at Liverpool Waterfront, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the route taking runners past some of the city’s key landmarks including Albert Dock, Museum Of Liverpool, Liverpool Cathedral, Sefton Park Palm House and Otterspool Promenade.
Looking ahead to March, organisers BTR Liverpool have implemented a number of changes to make the 23rd edition even more appealing. In addition to the race angels (who will be wearing bright orange t-shirts at the closing stages), those taking part in the event can be tracked around the course and located on an interactive app – more info and download details are available here.
Those taking part in the race are being alerted to the fact Friday 29 January is the deadline day if you would like your name to appear on your race number. General entries, however, will still be taken after this date.
