As demand for entries to the Bupa Great North Run once again far outweighs the number of places available, 3,000 secured places are available through the Daily Mirror. Runners are encouraged to enter through a ballot system, which closes midnight (Monday 6 January).
Starting in Newcastle, the course takes in the iconic Tyne Bridge, goes through Gateshead passing the famous international athletics stadium and finishes in the coastal town of South Shields.
The Bupa Great North Run is not only part of the cultural fabric of the North East, but has touched lives across the UK and around the world - last year's event saw runners from over 40 different countries taking part.
To be in contention for a place, prospective runners should enter the ballot here.
