Volunteers form the backbone to clubs and groups around the country – coaching, organising events, setting up training sessions and carrying out a host of other tasks. Now clubs and groups are being offered the opportunity to recognise volunteer efforts through the #BigThankYou campaign, the UK’s biggest celebration of sports volunteers.
Culminating at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, #BigThankYou is led by Join In (part of the Sport and Recreation Alliance), together with BBC Get Inspired, Sport England and UK Sport. Clubs and groups can be part of the action by sharing the stories of their volunteers, posting pictures on social media and thanking them through the hashtag #BigThankYou.
#BigThankYou will reach its climax on the red carpet at the big BBC sports awards night in Birmingham on Sunday 18 December, when the star-studded guest list will surprise volunteers with a call to say a #BigThankYou for the contribution they make in sport.
If someone in your club has gone above and beyond in their volunteering efforts, you can nominate them at the Join In website and explain why they should be recognised.
