Calling All 2017 London Marathoners

Virgin London MarathonThe dust may only just have settled on what was one of the most thrilling London Marathons of all time, but prospective entrants are alerted to the fact the public ballot entry system for the 2017 event is now open. The system for entries will follow that of last year’s, with the ballot open for five days (Friday 6 May) to allow everyone the possibility to enter.

As ever, applications will be in high demand: 247,069 looked for entry in 2016 and it is anticipated next year’s marathon, organised for Sunday 23 April, could well exceed that figure.

Last week’s race saw Eliud Kipchoge run the fastest time ever witnessed at London, clocking 2:03:05, just eight seconds off Dennis Kimetto’s world record. The event also welcomed its one millionth finisher, its largest turnout to date with a field of over 39,000 runners, while a dramatic fall in the women’s competition dramatically changed its outcome.

As of yet, the identity of the lucky one millionth finisher has been kept under wraps, although a grand reveal will take place on Monday 9 May. More information on the ballot entry system is available here.
