The drums are already beating for a new event in Cumbria as Carlisle Half Marathon joins the north of England running calendar for 2018.
Sunday 2 September is the date and Brunton Park football stadium is the venue for the new event that includes a 10k and a fun run as well as the feature 13.1 mile race.
A well-planned route (with key road closures) will see runners pass all the main city landmarks including the cathedral, Citadel Gates and the castle. Sections of the course will be rural and will include Rickerby Park and Bitts Park.
Musical entertainment along the route plus technical T-shirt and a 'gold' medal are included in what is a comprehensive race package.
In addition organisers are promising a fast and flat course with serious PB potential.
The early autumn date, the iconic Brunton Park start/finish and a scenic route has meant that organisers have already seen an unprecedented level of interest for the new Carlisle Half Marathon.
