Time is running out to cast your vote in the 2015 Merseyside Running Community Awards, an event which has been organised to honour, celebrate, recognise and thank the individuals and groups who make a huge difference to Merseyside running. The event’s popularity seems to be spreading, because, as it stands, the number of nominations received for this year’s awards are double the number received in 2014.
The awards are the brainchild of RUN (Running Unites Network), a group of like-minded volunteer runners from across Merseyside who meet on a regular basis to discuss all things running with race organiser BTR Liverpool. Collectively, RUN and BTR Liverpool created the Merseyside Running Community Awards last year to showcase and celebrate all that is positive and inspiring about the sport locally.
The categories for this year’s event are as follows: Inspirational Individual; Services To The Running Community; Best Running Moment; Volunteer Team; Running Personality; Charity Fundraiser of the Year (new for 2015); Club Of The Year (new for 2015); Newcomer of the Year (new for 2015); Lifetime Achievement; Running Image of the Year. Full details of the final shortlist is available here.
BTR race director Alan Rothwell commented: “Congratulations to all the finalists – and a big thank you to everyone who took the time to nominate. Competition amongst the nominees was extremely tough as there are so many fantastic stories out there about people and groups in the running community whose efforts deserve to be recognised.
“Almost 1,500 votes have been cast already, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed we achieve a Merseyside Running Community Awards personal best and smash the 2,200 votes which were cast last year. Good luck everyone.”
Voting closes at 11.59pm on Sunday (1 November) and winners will be announced at a special awards dinner at The Richmond Hotel Liverpool, Hatton Garden, on Friday 13 November. Tickets for the event are on sale at the BTR office and are priced at £45.
