One of the north west’s leading charities, The Christie, has been announced as the official charity partner for this year’s UKFast City of Salford 10K race. The event has established itself as a highly popular fixture in the region with almost 3,000 runners competing last year.
Those participating in the upcoming race – scheduled for Sunday 4 September – will be able to run in aid of the charity, which raises vital funds for The Christie NHS, one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe. The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above NHS funding: over £13.3 million was raised last year.
The Christie’s Sporting Events Manager, Lucy Naylor commented on the partnership: “We are very excited to be the chosen charity partner for the UKFast City of Salford 10K race. It’s a great 10k, right in the heart of Salford, and will attract a strong field of runners. We hope that as many runners as possible will sign up for Team Christie and help support The Christie against cancer.”
The Salford event is now seen as one of the leading 10ks in the region with impressive turnouts in successive years. Known for its fast and flat course, the race departs from MediaCityUK piazza and follows a route around Salford Quays and Trafford Park before crossing the bridge back into MediaCityUK to the finish line.
Like Lucy, Chris Bird from Sports Tours International, who organises the event, was delighted with the new arrangement: “We are thrilled to welcome The Christie as the official charity partner to this year’s UKFast City of Salford 10K event. It’s a fantastic charity that raises vital funds for much needed causes.
