Organisers of the Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon have confirmed that a limited number of guaranteed entries are available for the event on 12 October. The Jane Tomlinson Appeal is offering runners the chance to join its team for the race which has already sold out for 2014, with places administered on a first-come, first-served basis.
This year's sell-out follows hot on the heels of high demand for the 2013 event - which sold out in just three days. As a result, the capacity for the 2014 race was increased to 7,000, from just over 6,000 last year. The inaugural Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon was hailed a huge success from all quarters, bringing in up to £2m for good causes and a boost of at least £1m for the local economy.
Runners joining the Appeal Team will not only receive a guaranteed place in the marathon but will be invited to a free training day as well as tips and advice throughout the year. Members of the team and their supporters will be invited to enjoy both pre and post-race hospitality with refreshments and a post-race massage just five minutes from the finish.
Siobhan Curtis, Jane Tomlinson Appeal Legacy Manager, said: “The Marathon last year was a huge success for the Appeal with runners raising over £140,000. The money our team raised will go towards the Appeal’s continued support of both children’s and cancer charities across the region.”
“By joining the Appeal Team you will not only gain a guaranteed place in the Marathon but will join a community of runners that will be there to support you through your training and fundraising. And we’ll obviously be there on race day to give you the loudest of cheers!”
