While summer seaside running might seem like a distant dream at the moment, the reality might not be too far away with entries still open for the 2016 Southport Half Marathon. Interest in the race, scheduled for Sunday 3 July, is expected to be high with two new additions – a 10k and one mile fun run – in place for this year.
2015 saw almost 1,000 runners take part on a fine summer’s day and with a new traffic free route that now includes the town centre and a start/finish area in Victoria Park organisers are expecting to build on this number for 2016.
Both the 10k and half marathon will start in Victoria Park as in previous years but will now head into town before returning to the Marine Lake, the coast along Marine Drive, Promenade and under the pier. Runners will then pass through Kings Gardens, around the Marine Lake before returning for a finish in Victoria Park.
