The people of Chesterfield will have the chance to sign up to one of the town’s biggest and most successful mass participation events this weekend. The Chesterfield and Derbyshire Marathon will host a pop-up online registration day on Saturday 7 March at The Pavement Shopping Centre, outside Tesco, to encourage runners and race day volunteers to sign up to the event which takes place on Sunday 20 September.
More than 1,500 runners took part in the 2014 race, and this year’s event will once again be in support of children’s charity Kids ‘n’ Cancer, along with other local charities and good causes. The event will include a full marathon, half marathon, fun run and a relay race, where four competitors take a share of the course.
Mike Hyman, co-founder of Kids ‘n’ Cancer, said: “We have made the registration process much easier this year and we hope to see many local residents getting involved with the event, either as a runner or a race day volunteer. The volunteers did a remarkable job last year, with tasks including manning drinks stations, providing First Aid, traffic control and manning the runner enrolment desks on the day of the marathon.
Mike added: “The online registration day will give the people of Chesterfield the opportunity to get involved in the event and sign up with ease. It would be great to see the town get behind the event like they did so magnificently last year.”
Early bird prices for entry are available until midnight on 31 May 2015 and are £35 for the full marathon, £30 for the half marathon, £80 for the team relay and £5 for the fun run. You can register here.
