Organisers of the City of Salford 10K have announced an exciting new partnership with Club La Santa, the leading sports and active holiday resort. Scheduled for Sunday 7 September, the upcoming event is expected to build on the 3,500 runners it attracted in 2013, with the fast and flat course a massive draw for participants.
Club La Santa’s sponsorship will allow organisers to further improve a race which has established itself as one of the most popular in the north of England. All finishers will receive a Club La Santa technical sports t-shirt and a commemorative medal.
Further additions to this year’s event include: a metrolink in the race headquarters to ensure the tram line is suspended and to allow runners to cross the track safely; a faster collection process for medal and t-shirt; more music to spur competitors on.
The speedy course starts on the Piazza between The Lowry Theatre and The Lowry Outlet Mall, and heads on closed roads westwards along Broadway, along a wide carriageway, allowing runners to get a fast start. The route then turns back into MediaCityUK, past the BBC North offices and across the bridge into Trafford Park.
After a tour of Trafford Park, the route comes back across Millennium Bridge onto the Salford side, and a loop along the side of the Quays to the Watersports centre, before finishing in front of all the cheering friends, family and supporters in the Piazza.
Last year’s race welcomed a new men’s champion in Bradford Airedale’s Tesfaye Debele, who led the field home in 30:09. In the women’s competition, Rachel Burns of Liverpool Harriers secured victory in a time of 35:58.
