10th Birthday Bash At Coniston Trail

Coniston TrailThe ever-popular Lakeland Trails arrives in Coniston this weekend with the event preparing to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Sunday's race is set to attract a field of over 1200, with runners from across the UK, New Zealand, Israel, USA, Sweden, Norway and Iceland all set to compete.

Known for hosting family friendly sporting festivals, the Lakeland Trails events take place on footpaths / bridleways and offer a great introduction to the world of trail running. This weekend's start and finish arena will be at Coniston Showground with event car parking at the venue.

The day's proceedings begin at 11am with the 10K Coniston Trail Run, followed by the lengthier trail challenge (15k) at 1pm. After the running comes to a close, singer-songwriter Pete Lashley will be on hand to play some of his Lakeland trail-inspired tunes.

New for this year is a kid's zone (11.00am until 3.00pm), with bouncy castles, face painting, bongo balloon art, kid's activities and children's fun runs starting at 12.30, where the children run short laps of the finish arena and every child receives a medal. There are trade and retail stands, food and drink stalls and a live commentary with MC.

The event is supporting the regional Nurture Lakeland, Fix The Fells charity, and Coniston Mountain Rescue along with other regional and national charities with thousands of pounds being raised for these charities by competitors running in the event.
