It’s last chance saloon for anyone considering entering the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon with general entries closing tomorrow (Tuesday 5 February). Famed for its incredibly fast route and friendly reputation, the race is on course for another speedy sell-out, with around 15,000 runners expected to toe the line at Trafford Arch.
Organised by Human Race Events in partnership with Trafford Council, the race, scheduled for Sunday 7 April, will see competitors tackle a route that takes in Sale, Brooklands, Timperley, Altrincham, Urmston and Stretford, with runners congregating pre-race at the athlete’s village at Emirates Old Trafford – home of Lancashire County Cricket Club.
In November, runABC North reported on the massive spike in interest in the event, with a 75% upturn in entries posted in November against the same point in the previous year. This trend has continued with the majority of registrations already filled.
For 2019, organisers have revealed an antique gold medal with the rebranded Manchester ‘M’ taking centre stage on a sandblasted effect background. This simple yet effective design will be handed to each person who finishes the 2019 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon..
