Plenty of interest for the 42nd ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon is anticipated after organisers confirmed the date for the 2018 edition of the race (Sunday 8 April). Those looking to get a head-start on an event that attracts over 8,500 runners can do so by taking advantage of pre-registration and a reduced opening entry price.
Regarded as one of the friendliest marathons in the UK, it also stands as one of the flattest with many choosing the event for its PB potential. The 26.2-mile route takes in Sale, Brooklands, Timperley, Altrincham, Urmston and Stretford, with athletes congregating pre-race at the athlete’s village at Emirates Old Trafford – home of Lancashire County Cricket Club.
The event received a top accolade at April’s Running Awards, scooping first in the 'UK’s Best Marathon' category (of over 5000 runners). This recognition from the running community meant the event reclaimed its winning title from 2014 and 2015.
Race director Sarah Bennett commented: “We are delighted to confirm the date of the 2018 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon which has been eagerly awaited by those wishing to secure their place on the start line next year. We are also thrilled to be able to offer exclusive, discounted entry for all those who pre-register and hope that many will take advantage of this priority period and lower fees.”
As it stands, a record number of athletes have already pre-registered and it is expected that many more will do so now after confirmation of the race date. All those who pre-register will have exclusive access to the online entry system from Monday 26 June to Monday 3 July.
