After coming to an agreement with Trafford Council to find a suitable date, Altrincham and District AC, organisers of the Trafford 10K have confirmed that the 2018 event will now take place on Sunday 2 September. The race had been scheduled for earlier this month but the inclement weather had forced its postponement.
Runners who had entered the race will be allowed to claim free entry to the new race or request a full refund on their entry fee. Anyone looking to do so can email organisers and detail whether they wish to receive a refund or a free entry to the September race.
If a refund or transferal of entry is not requested prior to 31 March, the original entry fee will be donated to the St Ann's Hospice charity. Online entries for the September race will then open on 1 April, where any remaining places will be available on a first come first served basis.
Known for its fast and flat course, the 10k has become one of the most popular events in the south of Manchester. Last year saw Chris Thompson take first in 28:55. Richard Horton (29:27) just managed to edge out Highgate Harriers’ Andy Maud (29:28) in an exciting contest for second position. Each of the top five completed the 10k in under 30 minutes.
Swansea’s Elinor Kirk headed the female field with a winning time of 33:29, with Sunderland Strollers’ Aly Dixon second (33:40) and Lauren Howarth grabbing third spot in 34:00.
