Those considering taking part in the upcoming UKFast We Love Manchester 10K are being alerted to the fact online entries for the race close a week today (Wednesday 6 July). With over 3,000 runners registering for the 2015 staging, the 10k is quickly becoming one of the most popular events in the North West.
Affectionately known as the ‘People’s Race', the event sees competitors start and finish at the Regional Athletics Track, Sportcity, next to the Etihad Stadium, home to Manchester City FC. Moving out of Sportcity, the course loops at 6.5k and comes back into the campus to let runners enjoy a cracking finale on the track.
Last year saw Mohammed Abu-Rezeq (30:32) claim his fourth consecutive victory in a thrilling contest with Sale Harriers’ Matt Bond (30:33). Abu-Rezeq will be eager to secure his fifth title and the Altrincham runner has been putting in the miles at the recent Tour of Tameside – also organised by Sports Tours International – a four day event that saw him come out on top in each race.
In the women’s field at last year’s We Love Manchester 10K, 43-year-old Michelle Ross-Cope put in a fine performance to secure first position in 34:13, with Jane Evans (35:53), her closest competitor. Registration for the race is priced at just £20 (or £18 for UK Affiliated runners). Entry is available here.
