Run North West has a Christmas cracker of an offer right now, with reduced price entry available for two of their most successful and popular events, the Alderley Edge Bypass 10K (Sunday 1 July) and the Wilmslow Festive 10K (Sunday 25 November).
The bargain price will allow prospective entrants to register for just £30 (or £26 affiliated). Despite being relative newcomers to the scene, both races have managed to make a big impact and drew in a combined 5000 runners across the two events last year.
July’s inaugural staging of the Alderley Edge race came about after event organiser Andrew Whittingham decided to extend the race from five miles to 10k. The decision proved to be a big hit with a sell-out field and a host of top runners all vying for the first title – Liverpool Harriers’ Jonny Mellor took victory in an impressive 29:46, ousting Mohammed Abu-Rezeq (30:17).
The festive 10k, meanwhile, has seen its stock rise rapidly in just a matter of years. Last month’s event attracted 2500 runners, double the figure that competed in 2016, firmly cementing the Wilmslow Festive 10K as one of the big-hitters on the Christmas racing calendar.
Like the Alderley Edge race, it is known to offer excellent PB prospects – the top four runners last month all dipped beneath the 31 minute barrier. Departing from the centre of Wilmslow, the field took on a point-to-point course follows a scenic route that moved out of Wilmslow, along Knutsford Road before looping back round to Burleyhurst Lane for a finish on Sandy Lane.
