Staying fit in the midst of the Coronaviris crisis isn’t easy with gyms and leisure centres closed and parkrun cancelled for the foreseeable future. One option is the family-friendly Virtual Duathlon Series organised to support by Sheffield-based Run For It.
The event will support the Bone Cancer Research Trust, whose help has been invaluable to Run For It's Darren Wilkinson #MyMateDaz in a recent serious illness, and Prostate Cancer UK.
The Government has implemented measures to safeguard the UK population during the coronavirus outbreak that include social distancing. Parents are working from home while children are continuing their education at home to retain a semblance of normality in these difficult and scary times.
Now Run For It has come up with a ‘Plan B’ that can be done anywhere so ideal for families staying at home. It doesn’t have to be completed in one go – you choose the distance and discipline, i.e. run, bike and fit these around your schedule. This gives you something to focus on and a goal to aim for and there is a limited edition medal and personalised T-shirt at the end of it.
There are four distances: sprint, standard, middle distance and long distance so something to suit everyone, young and old. Start off with the Sprint Virtual Duathlon and stay with that or push yourself through all four distances and monitor your progress and improvements. The level of challenge is up to you.
The run section can be undertaken on a home treadmill or outside: the bike section on an exercise cycle or outside in line with official guidelines regarding sport and physical activity.
