Organisers of the Lakeland Trails marathon and half marathon in Coniston have opened entries for the 2014 event and are offering discounted prices for early registration. The races, which drew in almost 1000 competitors last month, are set for Sunday 6 July.
In addition to launching the 2014 event, there was news of a slight modification for next year's course. Organisers confirmed that the 'cow field' at the end of the race will be cut, with a section of dry stone removed so runners can enter the finish arena by the lake.
Starting and finishing at Coniston Hall Landing Point, on the shores of Coniston Water, the Lakeland Trails marathon takes in a complete circuit of Coniston Water. Taking in the idyllic beauty spot of Tarn Hows, and the elevated Beacon Tarn, the whole course gives panoramic views of Lake Coniston and the surrounding peaks of the Old Man, Swirl How, Wetherlam and Dow Crags.
For those wanting a shorter option, the Lakeland Trails half marathon utilises the first 17km section of the marathon course as far as Tarn Hows, before heading back to Coniston.
Early bird entry allows interested runners to register for the marathon for £39, with the half marathon priced at £29. More info is available on the Lakeland Trails website.
