Doncaster 10K here to stay

Doncaster 10K

The prospect of an exciting route at a racecourse plus that of a speedy end to autumn training certainly had the desired effect as 2,500 runners took part in what was only the second ever staging of the Doncaster 10K on Sunday (25 November).

The event got under starters orders from Doncaster Racecourse with athletes completing their final furlong under the watchful eye of the Old Clock Tower Stand before crossing the finish line under the legendary grandstand. The course weaved its way in and out of Doncaster Town Centre, offering a flat and fast paced route and an good event to grab a PB.
First to enjoy the grandstand finish was Nick Martin, who put in an excellent performance to claim top spot in 30:57. Rotherham Harriers pair Arron Larkin (32:12) and Lee Milburn (32:34) took second and third respectively.
City of York’s Emma Ballantyne was on PB form as she secured first lady in 36:52 with Barton & District’s Keri Pearson (37:39) and Lincoln Wellington’s Sophie Darling (38:37) following.
Race organisers Curly’s Athletes had implemented a number of changes for 2018, including an innovative ‘horse name shout out’ as competitors crossed the finish line, and provided an award winning pie courtesy of Toppings Pie Company plus hot chocolate for all those who took part.
The team were clearly delighted with the day and told runABC North: “It was a pretty cold and dreary day, but that did nothing to dampen the spirits of everyone involved, it was definitely an event that brought not only the running community together, but also showed the spirit of Doncaster!”

I ran the Doncaster 10k and it was brilliant. The venue, course and organisation were spot on and a massive thank you to all marshalls and volunteers. Also a great medal and pork pie to finish things off, another superb show Curly's. See you next year!!
