This weekend’s inaugural Doncaster 10K looks set to make a big impact with a sell-out field of 2000 runners preparing to compete. Such was the demand for the initial staging, the capacity was reached over a month ago and organisers, Curly’s Athletes, were also in the enviable position of having a full waiting list.
In store for Sunday’s (26 November) competitors is a traffic-free course that runs through the heart of Doncaster. Departing from the racecourse, the predominantly flat route, said to offer a strong chance of a PB, finishes in front on the main grandstand to allow for a memorable end point to the race.
Liz Jackson from Curly’s Athletes, who also organise the Doncaster Trail Run and the Normanby Hall Half Marathon, told runABC North of her excitement ahead of the 10k’s first staging: “All of the team can’t wait to get started and we’re 99% confident this is the biggest ever racing event in Doncaster.”
On the touches that will make this Sunday’s race unique, Liz added: “Every competitor receives a well-earned medal and a free pie at the finish from our local pie master at Toppings Pies! We have been fortunate enough to receive support from the team at Blizard Physiotherapy, who will be present on the day with their pop-up kit shop. Each runner will also have chosen a race horse name which we will be shouting out as they enter the finishing straight!"
