The north east will welcome a new addition to the racing calendar tomorrow (20 July) with the first staging of the Durham City Run. Up to 2500 runners are expected to tackle either the 5k or 10k route which takes in many of the iconic landmarks in the ancient city, including a finish point on Palace Green.
The race, with its 7pm start time, offers competitors the opportunity to see the city in its evening summertime splendour.
Both races start simultaneously in the ancient Market Square and progress through the narrow cobbled streets and along the beautiful River Wear with the imposing 900-year old Cathedral always beckoning.
Durham City Run is organised by Events of the North – the team behind Kielder Marathon, Sunderland City Half Marathon and Worcester City Run – in conjunction with Durham County Council.
