Contest Sports & Media Limited, organisers of the Warrington-based English Half Marathon, have announced their 2015 event will feature an exciting new course. The event, scheduled for Sunday 20 September, will include a modified start line and modified finish at the Golden Gates at the Town Hall.
The half marathon received came under the direction of Contest Sports two years ago and was included in the top 10 UK half marathons at last year's Running Awards. The 2013 staging began with a spectacular entrance by the RAF parachute display team, who descended 10,000 feet ahead of the 9am start. Now under the banner of the EHM Festival of Run, the event also includes a 10K, with both races attracting almost 3,000 runners in 2014.
The half marathon and 10K will start on Wimarleigh Street with the Town Hall and Golden Gates as a backdrop. The route travels over Bridgefoot before the half marathon takes in aspects of the previous English Half Marathon route in the south of Warrington.
Both routes then head back into the town centre, taking in landmarks such as the Halliwell Jones Stadium, The Guardians at Market Gate, The River of Life on Bridge Street, The Cultural Quarter before heading back up Wimarleigh Street and finishing through the Golden Gates at the Town Hall. The Livewire Mile is back for 2015, giving the opportunity for every level to get engaged with race weekend.
Rob Griffiths, director at Contest Sports & Media Limited: “We are thrilled to announce this new route that came together through the wonderful partnership we have with Warrington Borough Council and the efforts of our course director Bob Lobban. This new course embodies all that you would expect from a world class event.'”
