Organisers are well advanced with their plans for a classic renewal of the top 24 hour running event, Leeds Endure 24. Billed as 'Glastonbury for Runners', the popular endurance challenge is renown for its great summer festival atmosphere.
Next year on the weekend of 3-5 July, over 2,000 runners will descend on Bramham Park in the heart of Yorkshire and revel in the setting of an 18th century country house and its stunning estate.
The majority will be taking part in the team events (either 3-5 or 6-8 members) and in male, female and mixed categories. Although a hard core will run as a pair (one member on the course at all times) or solo (completing as many laps as possible in the 24 hour period).
Chris Sumner from organisers Race Solutions told runABC North: "Although it's over 7 months until the Endure 24 weekend, the team is currently finalising course details, deciding on T-shirt colours for 2020 and completing the myriad of tasks that means everything runs smoothly next July."
Chris continued: "The 2019 event saw record temperatures – great for creating a relaxed festival atmosphere, tougher for the competitors in the afternoon sun as they completed multiple laps of the scenic and undulating 5 mile trail course. However the nice thing about our event is that although many runners complete over 100 miles you are only ever a few miles from base if you need to refuel or simply rest and recover."
Last year runABC North reported: "On Saturday at 12 noon, everyone streamed away under the giant blue Mizuno arch, flanked by cheering crowds and multi-coloured flags flapping in the breeze. Temperatures kept rising, reaching 28/29 degrees at their maximum and this combined with the humidity added to the challenge. Hydration was of prime importance and efficiently catered for by the North Norfolk Beach Runners and their Wild West saloon bar AKA the Mizuno support station.
"There were DJ’s, sports massages, yoga, wood-fired pizzas, coffee and crepes to nourish body and soul and outstanding support from marshals and volunteers throughout. Even the King himself, Elvis Presley (Vdub Vibes) did his bit, entertaining runners while offering high-fives as they passed. The song “It’s Now or Never” would have been apt... "
Chris Sumner recommends that runners planning their 2020 calendar should make Endure 24 Leeds a highlight of the year: "Whether you're running solo or in a team of 8, we'll offer a stiff test but with lots of fun and excitement thrown in too. Some runners only complete a couple of laps so our event caters for all standards from party animals to hard-core 24 hour runners."
