Organisers of the English Half Marathon in Warrington have announced that the race will return on 21 September 2014 as part of the EHM Festival of Run. The event, now under the direction of Contest Sports, witnessed its biggest turnout to date in September with almost 2,500 runners taking part.
As part of the Festival of Run 2014, the English Half Marathon will now include a 10k road race and a family mile event. Race director Rob Griffiths said these additions were made after feedback from the field: "We also had a great demand for 10k road race to add to our already popular half marathon and family mile event, hence we have created the EHM Festival of Run. We are very excited and so are our local partners in Warrington."
Last month's half marathon began with a spectacular entrance by the RAF parachute display team, who descended 10,000 feet ahead of the 9am start. The course took runners from a picturesque, tree-lined start point at Victoria Park through the southern communities of Warrington. The event saw Mat Rushbrook lead the field home in a time of 1:14:04, with Law and District's Hilary McGrath top in the female competition.
Looking ahead to the EHM Festival of Run, Rob hopes the team can build on this year's success: "Runners feedback from the 2013 race was unprecedented and many of our entrants were keen to know when they could sign up for 2014."
For the month of October, interested participants can take advantage of an early bird offer. Registration for the 10k is £12.50 (£14.50 non-UKA), while the half marathon is priced at just £18 (£20). To enter, visit the EHM Festival of Run website.
