Fans of track athletics will be able to enjoy one of the all-time great match-ups this Thursday at the latest Diamond League meeting in Zurich. Ethiopians Meseret Defar and Tirunesh Dibaba were kept apart at the recent World Championships in Moscow.
Although both the leading two over both distances, they were kept apart when their federation elected to select Defar in just the 5000m and Dibaba in the 10,000m only.
Unsurprisingly both won gold, but scores are still to be settled. Thursday's 5000m race will be the first of two intriguing match-ups between the duo, the second being at next month's Great North Run.
