This year’s ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon looks like it will be an affair for all the family with organisers announcing the launch of its first ever family mile. Just 1000 places have been made available for the event, which will take place at 8:30am on Sunday 8 April.
The Greater Manchester Marathon Family Mile is available for children aged 5 – 11 and will offer participants the “thrill of taking part in a large sporting event and the glory of receiving their medal as they cross the finish line!”
Covering a one mile route, the course has been designed to provide excellent spectator viewing points, allow for easier view points for those cheering on their young ones. Parents/guardians will be able to get involved too, with all under 9s required to be accompanied around the course.
The family mile will form part of one of the city’s finest sporting events of the year: the race regularly pulls in up to 8,500 runners and attracts runners from across the country due to it being one of the fastest and flattest in the UK.
