Lakeland Trails organise a number of running events throughout the year in the lake District including the 10km Cartmel Sticky Toffee Run and the 18km Ultimate Cartmel Trail Race and Challenge. The Lakeland Trail race organisers are looking for volunteers to help marshal and run the 18km Ultimate Cartmel event on March 20, 2010 at Cartmel. They are offering in return, a FREE ENTRY into the 10km race! (also takes place on March 20, 2010).
Weekend camping, Saturday evening party night, hot showers and indoor changing make this an event not to be missed. In 2009, the event received a 99% overall approvals rating from the readers of Runnersworld magazine. The 18km and 10km courses are mainly along waymarked footpaths and bridleways, giving panoramic views of both Morecambe Bay and the surrounding peaks. Much of the courses pass through ancient woodland. Underfoot conditions are variable with a bit of everything. Good fast sections, but it can be very sticky in places, especially if wet. Check out the slide show of the course.
The course has kilometre markers, there are some great prizes on offer for the first men and women, with veteran class winnners too. The ultimate adventure trail runner's day out ! If you are interested then let the race organiser's know by visiting the Lakeland Trails website and emailing your expression of interest by following the links on the website. If you do not fancy volunteering to marshal but are still keen to run then entry forms are available on the official website also.
