Just one week remains before registration for the UKFast City of Salford 10K closes (Friday 1 September), a race which, with a seriously flat profile and interesting course that leads from MediaCityUK, is expected to see many of its 3,000 strong field record their fastest time of the year.
The 10k, scheduled for Sunday 3 September, starts and finishes in the MediaCityUK Piazza with the BBC and ITV studios overlooking. It then follows a route around Salford Quays and Trafford Park before crossing the bridge back into MediaCityUK to the finish line.
It is thought that this year could see the winner dip beneath 30 minutes. 2016 saw Mohammed Abu-Rezeq edge out Matt Bond to take top place in 30:03, just two seconds ahead of the Sale Harrier.
The impressive course and reasonable registration fee (£21 or £19 affiliated) has attracted, once again, both a high number of club and recreational runners to this year’s race, which has been on the calendar since 2008.
Dozens of local clubs, plus a few from across the Pennines – Steel City Striders RC, Wakefield Harriers – and one or two from further afield, including Oxford University AC, are all set to compete in what will be an intriguing contest.
