There’s nothing quite like a pre-Christmas running treat to yourself and one that comes at a reduced price is all the sweeter. Ideally suited for such a festive present is the last chance for discounted entry (limited autumn price) for the 2018 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon, which runs until Monday (4 December).
The event, set for Sunday 8 April, is recognised as one of the flattest marathons on the circuit with many choosing it for its PB potential. Upon departing from Trafford Arch, the speedy 26.2-mile route takes in Sale, Brooklands, Timperley, Altrincham, Urmston and Stretford.
2017 saw Stockport Harrier Patrick Martin front a 8,500 strong field to claim first in 2:22:37. Tom Charles of Trafford AC shaved over three and a half minutes off his marathon PB to secure second place in 2:23:55, while Belgrave Harriers’ Andrius Jaksevicius took third (2:24:28).
In the women’s competition, Georgie Bruinvels replicated her 2015 success with a convincing win in 2:37:05 – some 18 seconds quicker than her previous best at the event. Charlotte Firth secured second in 2:45:28, and Gemma Connolly of St Helens Sutton AC secured the final podium position in 2:46:43.
You can take advantage of the discounted registration price here before the price rise after Monday 4 December.
