Organisers of the MBNA Chester Marathon and Matric Marathon are offering ten free places for the event on Sunday 2 October. Anyone registering for the races before the end of July will be in with a chance of receiving their entry fee back, with the draw taking place on 1 August.
Since its inception in 2009, the 26.2 mile event has received considerable praise and was voted as the UK's number 1 marathon in 2012 and 2013. Last year, the race attracted upwards of 3,500 entrants, with the route, which passes through Chester city centre, loops over the border into Wales and returns for a grandstand finish at the racecourse, seen as a big draw.
In 2014, the 26.2 mile event added a further string to its bow with the introduction of the Metric Marathon. The 26.2km distance is seen as the ideal stepping stone from a half marathon to a full marathon and has been a big hit with registration soaring above 1,100.
Further information on both races is available here.
