The North East will welcome back what has quickly become a firm favourite in the region this summer when it hosts the fourth edition of the Gateshead Trail 10K. Entries for the race, scheduled for Saturday 12 August, opened on Sunday and organiser Doug Banks is expecting half of the 2000 places to be filled up shortly.
Established in 2014, the 10k, organised by Kandoo Events, offers runners the experience of trail running with the prospect of a PB – the scenic course is fast and flat with only a number of mild inclines. Traffic free, runners depart from Blaydon Rugby Club and move through the beautiful Derwent Walk Country Park.
Last year saw Kurt Heron take top place in 33:45 ahead of Morpeth pair John Butters (34:21) and Chris Smith (34:27). Lorna MacDonald, also with Morpeth Harriers, prevailed in a close contest with Sarah Robson (40:43), with Lauren Beckett in third place (41:17).
For those considering taking part, the start / finish area at Blaydon Rugby Club will have a massage tent for aching muscles, plus a food point with burgers and bacon sandwiches to replenish all of the calories burned during the race.
Registration is priced at £20. Further details area available here.
