A flurry of entries for next weekend’s (Saturday 12 August) Gateshead Trail 10K has resulted in another sell-out race for organisers Kandoo Events. The popular North East event will see 2000 runners move through the beautiful Derwent Valley Country Park and take in the waterways and the Viaduct.
Established in 2014, the 10k offers runners the experience of trail running with the prospect of a PB – the scenic course is fast and flat with only a number of mild inclines. Traffic-free, runners depart from Blaydon Rugby Club and move through the beautiful Derwent Walk Country Park.
Last year saw Kurt Heron take top place in 33:45 ahead of Morpeth pair John Butters (34:21) and Chris Smith (34:27). Lorna MacDonald, also with Morpeth Harriers, prevailed in a close contest with Sarah Robson (40:43), with Lauren Beckett in third place (41:17).
In store for runners and spectators next week is a host of festivities, including an appearance from Kenny D from Metro Radio, who will be livening the atmosphere at the start and finish area.
Doug Banks of Kandoo Events revealed what else is lined up: “The Gateshead Trail 10K is back bigger and better and is again sold out with 2000 runners ready to go!
“Each and everyone who comes along is invited to the start and finish area where there will be hay bale seating, boutique coffee, stone-fired pizzas, farmhouse burgers and a cheeky Prosecco van! This race is made to be fun and enjoyable from start to finish!”
Keep an eye out for our race report in the coming weeks.
