Up to 1500 runners are expected to tackle this Saturday’s (15 August) Gateshead Trail 10K at Blaydon Rugby Club. The race, organised by Kandoo Events, marked its entry to the circuit last year with an impressive turnout of close to 1000 competitors and has reached sell-out for Saturday.
The 10k is said to offer a fast and flat course despite its scenic route, with only a number of mild inclines. Traffic free, runners depart from Blaydon Rugby Club and move through the beautiful Derwent Walk Country Park.
Last year’s race saw Wallsend Harriers’ Yared Hagos take the first ever title in an impressive time of 31:04, with Damian Nicholls second (32:49) and Tom Durcan third (33:34). Rosie Smith led the female field home in 34:43 (while also securing 10th place overall), with Jane Hodgson (37:49) and Lorna Macdonald following (39:58).
Organisers Kandoo Events are also behind the popular Round Sheffield Run and Sheffield 10 10 10. Look out for runABC North’s race of the Gateshead Trail 10K report early next week.
