Over 200 women are preparing for the second staging of the Goal-den Girls 10K on Sunday (24 March). The event comes two days after the Goal-den Girls, the Blackpool running group that were established in 2010 for women over the age of 50, were awarded Sports Team of the Year by Blackpool Community Sports Council.
The 10k, organised by Fylde Coast Running, takes place on a fast and flat course across the Blackpool Promenade. Last year's race saw Sharleen Hollinshead of Trentham Running Club take top spot with a time of 38:39.
Tricia Ellis, who started the Goal-den Girls in 2010, is delighted that the event will coincide with the group's award: "It's a fantastic achievement and we're over the moon to receive Sports Team of the Year. Everyone is looking forward to another successful event on Sunday."'
More information on the race is available on the event website. Entries for the race are still open, with runners able to register on the day for £14.
