Going Deeper Underground

Winsford Salt Mine Vale Royal AC has launched what could well be the most unique race in the UK: an underground run in a working salt mine. Scheduled for Sunday 3 September in Cheshire, the Winsford Underground Salt Run will take runners 150 metres below ground for a 10k race that is believed to be a world first.

The route will utilise some of the 160 miles of underground tunnels at the Winsford Rock Salt Mine. The mine, which is usually closed to the public, boasts broad, motorway-sized caverns and will offer the opportunity for runners to put something highly original on their racing CV.

Entries for the 10k have been capped at 120 participants so prospective entrants need to apply as soon as possible. With such a limited number of places available, organisers have requested a fundraising minimum of £250, with £500 - £1000 the aspirational guide.

For anyone looking to apply, you can download the entry form here. Registration is priced at £25 and participants must be aged 18 and over.
