Whether those tips for last Saturday's big race turned out to be genuine or not, runners in the north west can enjoy their very own big race day experience at Aintree at the Grand 10K Run. The event, scheduled for 28 September, sees competitors follow a route entirely within the grounds of Aintree Racecourse, home to the Grand National.
The 10K passes through some of the most famous and iconic names in British horseracing history including The Chair and Becher's Brook, Red Rum and the Winning Post, and along the Melling Road. The exciting course is predominantly flat, perfect for runners looking to achieve an autumn PB.
Last year’s inaugural event got off to a flying start with over 500 competitors and Tesfaye Debele taking advantage of the fast course with an impressive time of 31:39, followed by Salford Harriers' Tarus Elly in 32:38, with Luke Towers third in 36:04. In the women's competition, Kirsty Longley of Liverpool Pembroke finished well ahead of the field in a time of 38:09.
Organisers Sports Tours International are offering a discounted entry of just £15 for anyone registering before the end of April; a £10 reduction on the standard price. The event offers chip timing, water stations, free car parking and massages provided by local physios. All finishers will receive a medal, t-shirt and goodie bag.
