Sunday's Stockport 10 witnessed a dramatic finish with just three seconds separating the top trio. Altrincham & District AC's Mohammed Abu-Rezeq improved on his runners-up spot in last year's race to take first place in 49:55, with Josh Lilly second (49:57) and Andi Jones in third place (49:58).
The event was given a fitting opening with Stockport Harrier Brian Leigh running one lap of the track with his Olympic torch and to the Chariots of Fire theme. Starting and finishing at the Woodbank Stadium, 750 runners managed to complete the undulating 10 mile course, which has two challenging climbs at 5 miles and 8 and a half miles.
Top in the female field was Leeds City AC's Susan Partridge, continuing her impressive form with a time of 57:43. Louise Blizzard of Belgrave Harriers took second in 1:02:40, with Amy Green (Keighley & Craven AC) third - 1:03:04.
Post-race feedback was again good and a report on the Stockport Harriers website ran: "It was another brilliant event with a fantastic atmosphere and some great performances. As usual, the race was praised for superb organisation, great sense of fun, and its friendly and supportive marshals and other volunteers."
