Half Fever Builds In Liverpool

Liverpool HalfExcitement is mounting in Liverpool as the date for the North-West's premium half marathon (Sunday 13 March) draws close. The Vitality Liverpool Half Marathon will see a bumper field gather at the Pier Head for the popular 13.1 mile test.

The international flavour of the event is underlined with entries from as far afield as Brazil however it is the local running community who will create a fantastic atmosphere as they benefit from the hard months of winter training with a unique race day experience.

The big attraction is the brilliant course which takes in the Albert Dock, the Museum of Liverpool, Liverpool Cathedral and Sefton Park Palm House and features a 3-mile home straight along Otterspool Promenade back to the finish at the iconic Pier Head.

2016 sees the addition of a 10 mile race to the programme and, with a memorable Pier Head start and finish which replicates the half marathon experience, the event has already attracted a large entry. Late applications are still being made for both races with the 10 miler proving popular with runners who have completed a 10k and are looking for a staging post to the 2017 Vitality Liverpool Half Marathon.

Alan Rothwell at race organisers BTR Liverpool is looking forward to another Merseyside classic on 13 March. He told runABC North: "There is a real buzz building about the race – which celebrates its 23rd consecutive year for 2016.

"Lots of top local runners from clubs like Liverpool Harriers, Liverpool Pembroke Sefton, Penny Lane Striders, Liverpool Running Club and the Kirkby Milers will be on the start line so we expect a great race at the head of the field. But this is also a red letter day for the half marathon first-timers and recreational runners who make the Vitality Liverpool Half Marathon their big event of the year. Add the colourful and enthusiastic charity contingent and you have one of the city's top sporting occasions."

There are still places available for the Vitality Liverpool Half Marathon and for the new 10 mile race. Details at the event website.
