Organisers of the City of Salford 10K and 5K are offering a sizeable discount for early bird entries to the races. Interested runners can register for half price - £9 and £8 (or £8 and £6 for affiliated members) - up until 31 May, with the event offering a new starting section and fast course around Salford Quays.
Due to take place on Sunday 8 September, the modified route will see runners start along the wide boulevard of The Quays, allowing the field to thin out before turning left on to Broadway and heading back into MediaCity UK. After the first bridge, runners will continue through Trafford Park before heading over the second Lowry bridge and into the Salford Quays area for the final 1k.
The Salford 5K runs through MediaCity UK, through the BBC into Trafford Park before crossing the Lowry Bridge and back over to the Salford Quays side and finishing in The Plaza.
Last year's event saw Mohammad Abu-Rezeq take first place in the 10k in a time of 30:18, with Kirsty Longley top in the female field in 36:59. While the events offer a strong possibility of a PB, they are also seen as a great opportunity for runners looking to tackle a 5k or 10k for the first time.
