Montane has teamed up with Keswick retailer, George Fisher, in an initiative aimed at raising money for the repair and maintenance of the Lake District. The partnership, which was launched last week and is due to run until May, is part of Fix the Fells campaign and is hoping to generate £1,000.
Over the course of these months, Montane and George Fisher will donate £5 for every Montane product bought in store and online. As headline sponsors of Lakeland 100 and 50 ultras, which draws in over 1,000 participants each year, Montane are hoping to raise the issue of erosion and are keen to help maintain paths for everyone who uses them.
The partnership is part of Fix The Fells' campaign that is looking to raise £500,000 over the next 10 years. As it stands, it has managed to restore over 200 sections of path, with a further 120 identified for repair.
Ruth Kirk, fundraising development officer for Fix The Fells partner, Nature Lakeland, commented: "Every single pound donated makes a real difference. It costs £100 to repair one metre of stone pitched path, so your £5 donated through purchasing a Montane product will repair around two boot prints worth of erosion! It's vital funding we need to help us keep the fells fighting fit for the future for everyone to continue to enjoy."
