After the success of the 2013 event, Highgate Harriers’ Night of the 10,000m PBs is attracting a host of elite runners for the race on Saturday 10 May at London’s Parliament Hill. Such is its popularity, the national governing body British Athletics requested to incorporate the race into the prestigious British Championships & European Trials.
Confirmed in the men’s field are Andy Vernon, second place at the recent Great Ireland Run, Andrew Lemoncello, who recently hit the Commonwealth qualifying time in California’s Stanford Invitational, and Liverpool Harriers’ Jonny Mellor, who boasts a PB of 28:15 over the distance. London 2012 Olympic Triathlon champion, Alistair Brownlee, who ran an impressive 28:32 on his 10K debut, will also be competing.
In the women’s competition, Aldershot’s Charlotte Purdue is the favourite on paper with a PB of 31:45. Challenging her is likely to be France’s Sophie Duarte, Exeter Harriers’ Jo Pavey (31:50), reigning champion Aly Dixon (32:30) and Belgrave Harriers’ Tish Jones (32:30).
In addition to the elite event, three open 10,000m races are being staged to accommodate aspiring club athletes. The event is free for spectators, and organisers have promised a unique atmosphere, with runners having requested motivational tunes for the evening.
The race takes place on Saturday 10 May at Parliament Hill Athletics Track, London. More information is available at British Athletics’ website.
