The third installment of the Tour of Tameside utilises what is perhaps the region’s most beautiful trail. For those tackling all four races in the tour, the High Peak Half Marathon, scheduled for Saturday 18 June, offers a respite from the more undulating routes with a fast and flat course for the duration of the 13.1 miles.
After departing from the athletes' village, runners head onto the scenic Longdendale Trail, a disused railway line. When moving to the end of the trail at Woodhead Tunnel, the course then loops back to finish at the start point.
The event is also a poignant occasion as it is dedicated to PC Nicola Hughes who sadly lost her life in an incident in Tameside. As part of this, a short Memorial Run has been organised prior to the half – the idea is that if you add the two distances of the both together you will match in miles the badge number of the officer (14846). The additional £5 for the Memorial Run goes to the PC Nicola Hughes Charity.
Individual entry for the High Peak Half Marathon is priced at just £20. More information is available here.
