Runners taking part in the 2016 ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon will do so at a new venue, with organisers Xtra Mile Events announcing the move from Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium. The new race village and finish point will be located at the Emirates Old Trafford, the home of Lancashire County Cricket Club, for the event on Sunday 10 April.
Based just 10 minutes from Manchester city centre, the race village will provide improved access for runners and supporters. In addition, the new line will be doubled in width to eight metres. Both of these features are in accordance with the long-term expansion of the event.
Race director Simon Hill commented: “I am delighted to announce the move of the ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon from Manchester United FC to Emirates Old Trafford. This move has been part of our long term plans for the development and growth of the race, and due to changes in the football security environment put in place we have brought the plans forward to 2016.
“This is a positive move for the marathon as it joins the Manchester Half Marathon at this fantastic venue, and we are looking forward to delivering a great event at the race’s new home this April.”
