Over 550 Santas, elves and reindeers took part in the Jingle Bell Jog on a bright and morning at MediaCityUK Salford. Sunday’s (3 December) run, organised by Sports Tours International, marked a new direction for the annual festive themed-event and saw participants, plus families, friends and pet dogs coming along to spread the Christmas cheer.
Set in the shadows of the BBC and ITV studios, MediaCityUK became the perfect backdrop to kickstart the festive activities. The route took in a number of famous landmarks with the start and the BBC buildings providing a superb spot for some memorable photographs.
The festive excitement continued throughout the day with organised activities in the piazza, including classic Christmas songs, a number of players from Manchester Giants basketball team who were on hand to meet and greet the runners with that all important finishers medals and selection box. The icing on the Christmas cake was two of Santa’s real reindeers available for selfies on the day.
Graham Jackson, race director for Sports Tours International said; “The Jingle Bell Jog is an event that is a great celebration for the whole family and this more than our other events sees us welcome a wide spectrum of participants even families with buggies and dogs dressed up in Christmas costumes – it’s a wonderful sight to see!”
The run, which supported the Dreams Come True Charity, was Sports Tours International’s biggest festive-themed event in recent years with double the number of participants who took part in 2015.
It also brings to a close their 2017 series, which has included, among others, the UKFast City of Salford 10K, We Love Manchester 10K and the iconic Tour of Tameside.
